The eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to face a worrying health situation linked to the resurgence of the Ebola virus disease. According to reports from the World Health Organization (WHO, 2026) and UNFPA, more than 746 suspected cases and 83 confirmed cases have already been recorded in the DRC, mainly in Ituri Province, currently considered the epicenter of the outbreak. Suspected and confirmed cases have also been reported in the cities of Beni, Butembo, and Goma in North Kivu, raising serious concerns about the high risk of the disease spreading through frequent population movements between the different affected provinces. In response to this situation, AIL ASBL is urgently calling on humanitarian partners, donors, and public health actors to strengthen prevention activities, community awareness, and health surveillance in the exposed areas. Rapid support remains essential to limit the spread of the epidemic and protect communities already vulnerable and affected by multiple humanitarian crises in eastern DRC.
